Getting from Bergen Airport to the city center is easy. Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) lies about 16 km south of the center, and the light rail, the airport bus, a taxi or a private car will take you there in 20 to 45 minutes. The right choice depends on your luggage, your budget and how many of you are travelling.
This guide compares all four ways from Bergen Airport to the city side by side, with current prices, travel times and where to find each one when you walk out of arrivals. It also covers the cruise terminals, late arrivals and the trip back to the airport.

Bergen Airport to City Center at a Glance
Here is how the four ways from Bergen Airport to the city compare. Prices are one way and were correct in October 2026; check with the operator before you travel.
| Bybanen light rail | Flybussen airport bus | Taxi | Private transfer | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time to the center | About 45 minutes | 20–30 minutes | About 20 minutes | 20–30 minutes, door to door |
| Price | NOK 51 per adult | NOK 189 online, NOK 220 on board | NOK 580–890 per car (Bergen Taxi fixed price) | From NOK 3,000 per car |
| Where to find it | Platform on the terminal's lower floor | Stops A3, A5 and A6 outside the terminal | Taxi rank outside the terminal | Your driver, inside the arrivals hall |
| Your luggage | You carry it on board | In the hold under the bus | In the boot | Carried for you |
| Drops you at | Bergen bus station and Byparken | Six central stops, including Festplassen and Bryggen | Your door | Your door or your ship |
| Best for | Light bags and a tight budget | Hotels near a bus stop | Short notice, no booking | Families, groups, cruise guests and business travellers |
What It Costs for a Group of Four
| Option | Total for 4 adults | Per person |
|---|---|---|
| Light rail | NOK 204 | NOK 51 |
| Flybussen (bought online) | NOK 756 | NOK 189 |
| Taxi (if your bags fit in one car) | NOK 580–890 | NOK 145–223 |
| Private transfer, Mercedes EQV or similar (up to 6) | From NOK 3,200 | From NOK 800 |
For four people, a taxi costs about the same per person as Flybussen and takes you to the door. A private transfer costs more, but your driver meets you inside, waits if your flight is late and has room for everyone's luggage.
Bergen Light Rail (Bybanen Line 1) to the City: The Cheapest Way
Bybanen, Bergen's light rail (many visitors call it the tram), runs from the airport terminal straight to the city center. It is the cheapest way from Bergen Airport to the city, and you do not need to change.
Where to Find It
The light rail platform is on the lower floor of the terminal building. Follow the signs for Bybanen once you have collected your bags.
Tickets and Prices
An adult ticket costs NOK 51 and a child ticket (ages 6–17) NOK 26. Buy it before you board, in the Skyss Billett app, by SMS or at the ticket machine on the platform.
Where It Stops
The ride takes about 45 minutes, with many stops on the way. Get off at Bergen bus station for hotels on the south side of the center, or stay on to the end stop, Byparken, in the heart of the city.
Good to Know
The light rail works well if you travel light. With large suitcases, remember that you lift them on board yourself and walk the last part: the streets around Bryggen are hilly and cobbled.
Flybussen: The Bergen Airport Bus
Flybussen is the airport express bus between Bergen Airport and the city center. It is faster than the light rail with fewer stops, so it suits travellers staying close to one of them.
Where to Catch It
The bus leaves from stops A3, A5 and A6, right outside the terminal building.
Prices
A one-way ticket costs NOK 189 if you buy it online in advance, or NOK 220 on board. Children travel at a reduced fare, and a return ticket saves more. Check current fares and the timetable at flybussen.no.
City Stops
The ride to Bergen bus station takes about 20 minutes, and the bus continues to six central stops, including Festplassen and Bryggen. Your suitcases travel in the hold under the bus.
Taxi from Bergen Airport: Price and How It Works
Taxis wait at the rank just outside the terminal building. The drive to the city center takes about 20 minutes in normal traffic.
What a Bergen Airport Taxi Costs
Bergen Taxi offers a fixed price of NOK 580–890 between the airport and the city center (as of August 2026). Other companies set their own prices, which vary with the time of day and the size of the car. Whichever taxi you take, the driver must tell you the fare before you set off.
Pre-Booking a Taxi
You can order a taxi in advance from Bergen Taxi on 07000 or from other local companies; Avinor lists their numbers on its Bergen Airport transport page.
Use the rank, not drivers who approach you. Take your taxi from the official rank or one you have ordered. If someone offers you a ride inside the terminal, say no: you cannot check the car, the licence or the price.
Private Bergen Airport Transfers: Your Driver Waits in Arrivals
A private transfer is the only option where someone is waiting for you. Your driver tracks your flight, meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name board, takes care of your bags and drives you straight to your hotel, apartment or ship.
What Is Included
- A professional, English-speaking driver
- Meet & greet with a personalised name board in the arrivals hall
- Flight tracking, so your pickup moves if you land early or late
- 60 minutes' free waiting after landing
- Help with your luggage, from the belt to the boot
- Bottled water
Prices
| Vehicle | Passengers | From (one way, incl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes EQE or similar | 1–2 | NOK 3,000 |
| Mercedes EQS | 1–2 | NOK 3,200 |
| Mercedes EQV or similar | 3–6 | NOK 3,200 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | 7–16 | NOK 4,500 |
| Coach | 17 and more | NOK 6,200 |
Prices are per car, not per person, and apply in both directions. Your quote is a fixed price, agreed before you travel; it can vary with the date, vehicle availability and peak periods.
When a Private Transfer Is Worth It
- Families with children, pushchairs or skis
- Groups of four to six, where the cost per person comes close to the bus
- Cruise guests with large suitcases
- Late arrivals and delayed flights, when you do not want to wait for a bus or queue for a taxi
- Business travellers who want to work or rest on the way
Which Option Is Best for You?
Bergen is hilly and its old streets are cobbled, so the more luggage you carry, the more a door-to-door car is worth.
| If you are… | Take |
|---|---|
| Travelling alone or as a couple with light bags | The light rail |
| Staying near Bryggen, Festplassen or the bus station | Flybussen |
| Arriving at short notice without a booking | A taxi from the rank |
| A family, a group of four to six, or travelling with skis | A private transfer in a Mercedes EQV or similar |
| A cruise guest or a business traveller | A private transfer to your door or your ship |

Bergen Airport to the Cruise Port
Most cruise ships in Bergen dock at Skoltegrunnskaien (Skolten), a short walk from Bryggen; others use the Jekteviken and Dokken quays. By car, the drive from the airport takes 20 to 30 minutes.
The light rail and Flybussen stop in the city center, not at the ship, so with cruise luggage a taxi or a pre-booked car is the easier choice. With a private transfer, send us your flight number and your ship's name. Berths can change, so we confirm the meeting point before you travel and drive you straight to the quay.
The same works in reverse on the way home: your driver collects you at the ship and takes you to the airport. Book a transfer from Bergen Airport to the cruise port.
Late-Night and Early-Morning Arrivals
The light rail and Flybussen do not run around the clock. If you land late in the evening or fly out early in the morning, check the first and last departures on skyss.no and flybussen.no before you travel.
If your flight lands after the last departure, a taxi from the rank or a pre-booked car is the way into town. With a private transfer, your driver tracks your flight, so a delay does not leave you stranded: the first 60 minutes after landing are free, and extra waiting is charged by the hour.
Getting to Bergen Airport from the City
The same four options run in the other direction. Take the light rail to the airport from Byparken or Bergen bus station (about 45 minutes), the bus to Bergen Airport from one of the Flybussen stops, a taxi, or a private car that collects you at your hotel.
When to Leave
Allow your travel time plus the check-in time your airline asks for. By car, the drive takes 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic; leave extra time at busy times of day.
For an Early Flight
A pre-booked car is the simplest choice. Your driver collects you at your hotel at the agreed time, helps with your bags and drops you at departures. Hotel pickups include 15 minutes' waiting, and the price is the same as from the airport.
